Oil on Canvas
This painting of New Town Quay focuses on the organic decay of the oak posts leading the eye towards the small boathouse in the distance. The atmosphere created by the muted and largely cold colour palette suggests a cold January day. The reeds are all intertwined and matted together emphasising the slow decay seen in the oak posts and the gable end of the boathouse. The reeds and the oak posts will soon be submerged beneath the water once more as the tide cleanses the shore of its inexorable decay.
