The Derelict Barn 1
I discovered this old barn whilst out walking early one late spring morning. As I approached to admire the ancient woodwork I disturbed a Barn Owl which quickly flew off through the doorway and out into the cold early morning light, always so crisp and clear at that time of the year. This inspired me to draw the barn and to include the owl into the composition backlit by the low sunlight.
The barn which was so old and had many tales to tell was subsequently purchased and turned into a very des res but not for owls sadly. I wonder how much of the original character of this old building still remains?

This larger oil on canvas version of The Derelict Barn includes more birds and focuses on the rich russett colours and the darkness inside the building in contrast the the bright early springtime light flooding in from outside.
